Ryan is an author as well as a sports and media entrepreneur. He has built successful businesses across Alberta and Canada. He has nearly 20 years experience delivering great content to large audiences, including working with dozens of major brands like Toyota and Converse. His journey from journalist to media executive shows his ability to not only strategically develop ideas, but also to reach millions.

I’m running frankly because I don’t like the direction the world is heading in. I can’t do anything about the world, but I feel like I can help fix some things here in Ward 14 and the city of Calgary. We need fresh ideas and voices on City Council after the past four years of bickering and inaction. We need to build a better city for everyone in it.
On housing affordability:
I know it feels that that issue is sometimes impossible to address, but there’s actually quite a lot we can do to help at the municipal level. A lot of it is fixing zoning so that it’s better aligned with actual housing needs. We can use city owned land for more affordable housing. Kick the province and the federal government into investing in housing on a steady basis. A publicly owned water utility can actually help get hidden housing costs like site levies reduced, that’s definitely worth exploring too. Overall we have to refocus our housing priorities to building the right places at the right locations, and not just let developers do whatever they want, wherever they want. It needs guidance.
On public transit:
It’s absurd that we’ve had to fight this long to get train service to the SE. We need to get the province back on board with the original plan [for the Green Line] and get this done.
Expanded MAX and on-demand transit options and increased frequency on higher demand routes are the only real solutions until we can get rail service on track (no pun intended).
On climate planning:
If you want to fight climate change in Calgary, you can start by making public transit efficient, electric, affordable and ever-present. We need to invest in energy-efficient buildings and green infrastructure too.
On public services:
If you don’t have the best public services, I don’t see how we can live in the best city in Canada.
