Sign on for affordable housing
Calgary’s housing affordability crisis is dire. Housing prices in Calgary are skyrocketing and people can’t afford to pay. With a municipal election right around the corner, we need to make sure candidates for City Council are committed to keeping our city affordable.
Thanks to the voices of Calgarians like you, we’ve made progress on housing over the past couple years. In 2023 City Council approved a set of practical recommendations put together by the Housing and Affordability Task Force. One of those recommendations was inclusive zoning to make it easier to build more housing. In the spring of 2024, thousands of Calgary residents worked together to make sure City Council approved inclusive zoning.
But the work doesn’t stop there. Calgary is playing catch up at a critical time, and right now over 80,000 Calgary households are in need of affordable housing. Each year in Calgary, 2,000 more renters are in need of affordable housing while only 300 new units are built annually. We need more affordable housing and we need it fast.
That’s why it’s so important to make sure the next round of City Council candidates commit to following through with the Housing and Affordability Task Force’s recommendations and investing in more affordable housing.
