Nope! In the last municipal election, Calgary’s Future registered as a political action committee and helped get real community leaders elected to City Council and the Calgary Board of Education. Some of the candidates we endorsed got elected, and others did not. Regardless of the election outcome, we are not beholden to the candidates we endorse and they are not beholden to us.

Beyond our role as a third party advertiser, we’ve been working between elections to hold our leaders accountable and advocate for real solutions to the challenges affecting our city and the people who live here.

There are a number of Councillors serving on City Council right now who we endorsed in 2021. For some of those Councillors, we are happy with the leadership they’re taking on issues like the housing crisis. But there are some Councillors we endorsed who haven’t been accountable to their election platforms, and we’ve been openly critical of those Councillors.

When the next election comes around, we’ll be looking closely at the election platforms of all candidates.

In the 2021 election, Calgary’s Future used an endorsement questionnaire to determine the priorities of potential candidates. We used that information to gauge which candidates were most aligned with the values of our supporters.

As the 2025 municipal election approaches, we’ll be refining this process and determining if/how it needs to change to accommodate the introduction of political parties to the municipal political landscape.
