To make sure we’re advocating for what’s most important to residents, we’re listening to what Calgarians are telling us:
What does the Calgary that you want to see look like?
A city with a strong network of community centres and associations where the people do not struggle with basic necessities such as food and shelter.
– Aiden, Glamorgan
What do you want to see highlighted in a city council candidate’s platform?
Improvements for public transit and ways to reduce vehicle use and improve the city’s air quality.
– Whitney, Mount Pleasant
What are the most important issues facing Calgary?
Jobs and housing.
– Zaia, Marlborough
Endorsement Survey Questions
To help inform our endorsements, we’re asking city council candidates to fill out the questionnaire below. Their responses will help us see which candidates are prioritizing the issues that Calgarians tell us are important.
- Tell us about who you are and why you’re running for City Council?
- Why should Calgarians vote for you?
- The Green Line project has faced significant delays and scope changes. Should the Green Line be a priority? If so, how will you approach getting the project back on track?
- In the absence of the Green Line, how will you ensure regions where transit demand is high (like North Central Calgary) are receiving sufficient services in the meantime?
- Increased demand for housing and subsequent decreasing affordability are top issues for our supporters and Calgarians more broadly.
- What do you feel are the best solutions to ensure more homes are built in the places people want to live?
- Do you support the policies laid out in ‘Home is Here, The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy 2024 – 2030’ ?
- How will you ensure housing remains affordable for all Calgarians?
- Thousands of Calgary residents are employed through our city’s public services with even more relying on them to go about their daily lives.
- In your view, how important are public services to fostering a successful city?
- Are there any instances in which public services could be cut in favour of public-private partnerships?
- According to the City of Calgary’s 2025 citizen satisfaction survey, more than two-thirds (69%) of Calgarians believe climate change is affecting Calgarians’ quality of life daily and that it will harm them personally in their lifetime (68%). What actions will you take to fight climate change and mitigate impacts on the city of Calgary?
- Some candidates advocate for cuts—promising property tax cuts that can only be sustained with service cuts and austerity budgets. Do you agree with this philosophy? Why or why not?
- How important is a downtown revitalization plan to you? What solutions would you present to get the downtown core thriving again?
- Even though crime rates have dropped by nearly 50% since 2019, Calgarians express concern about public safety downtown and on public transit. Our city is statistically safer than before but people don’t feel it. What is your plan to help address concerns about safety?
- As Calgary’s population grows, so does demand for accessible and affordable recreation opportunities. How will you ensure that all areas of Calgary have access to recreation facilities?
- How do you plan to advance actions in the City of Calgary’s White Goose Flying Report: Calls to Action?
- In the past few years, the share of property taxes that are controlled by the provincial government has increased (to 37% total). In addition, the provincial government has continued to cut funding for essential programs (like the low income transit pass) and created new legislation to control the use of federal funding and other municipal decision making. How would you approach the city’s relationship with the province and advocate for the needs of Calgarians?
- Decision making at city council has become increasingly polarized. How will you navigate this environment to ensure progress is made on the issues that matter to your constituents?
- Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
- Are there any websites or social media accounts that you would like to direct Calgary’s Future supporters to?
Stay tuned! We’ll be publishing our endorsements leading up to the Calgary election on October 20, 2025.
